2025 Captain Previews - Women's 1st XI

As we look ahead to the 2025 season, we’re excited to bring you a series of previews highlighting all our teams — and where better to start than with one of our brand-new sides?

Maghera Cricket Club are incredibly proud to be entering a women’s team into competitive competition for the very first time. This marks a historic moment for the club and builds on the amazing momentum we gathered last year.

In 2024, we held a series of taster sessions at Meadowbank Sports Arena, which far exceeded expectations. The enthusiasm, energy, and passion shown by the attendees were truly inspiring and left no doubt about the appetite for women’s cricket in Mid Ulster.

Following those taster sessions, we launched official women’s training — another major milestone for MCC. These sessions brought a wave of new players into the club, and by July, we proudly played our first-ever women’s match against Coleraine.

Now, as we begin the 2025 season, we’re delighted to be entering a team in the NWCU Division 2 Cup, which will mark our first competitive fixture in women’s cricket history. Throughout the season we will also be playing a number of friendly fixtures soon to be announced.

Training Details:

Training resumes after another strong pre-season on Monday 28th April and will continue every Monday from 7:00 to 8:30 PM at The Rainey Endowed School.

We caught up with newly appointed 1st XI captain Carol Andrews to hear her thoughts ahead of the season:

The team kicks off their historic campaign with an away cup fixture against Ballyspallen on Friday, 9th May.
