After a challenging season last year, Maghera Cricket Club is gearing up for a promising resurgence as they embark on their 2024 campaign. With only one victory to boast from the previous season, the club have worked hard in the preseason, obtaining the services of Benji Cathcart as a new player-coach, improved training sessions and new players, instilling newfound confidence and determination within the club.
Under the guidance of Benji, Maghera Cricket Club has undergone training sessions aimed at refining their skills and strategies. Benji brings a wealth of experience and expertise, providing invaluable insights and tactical acumen to propel the team forward.
Here is what Captain Alfie Stewart had to say:
"The new cricket season gets underway tomorrow with Maghera 1st eleven playing host to Killyclooney 2nds at Rainey School.
After what has been a very turbulent pre-season preparation with awful weather all teams will be feeling very much underprepared having had no pre-season matches to shake off the winter rustiness.
Maghera however have been in training mode under new player/coach Benji Cathcart and will be keen to improve on last season's disappointments and determined to establish themselves once again as a formidable force in Qualifying League 2.
It's a new season, with new players, a new vision and renewed focus on being a successful welcoming club to all cricket lovers in the area. Come on down to The Rainey and lend your support to your local cricket club. All that remains to help us on our way is for the sun to shine very soon."
Buoyed by the influx of fresh talent and the return of seasoned players, Maghera Cricket Club is poised to make a statement in the upcoming season. The blend of youth and experience promises to inject vigor and dynamism into the team's performance, fostering a competitive spirit and a hunger for success.
The opening match against Killycloney 2nds serves as a litmus test for Maghera Cricket Club's newfound resolve. It presents an opportunity for the team to showcase their progress and set the tone for the season ahead. With meticulous preparation and a renewed sense of purpose, Maghera Cricket Club is determined to start their campaign on a winning note, laying down a marker for their aspirations and ambitions.
Here is what Vice Captain Aaron Stewart had to say about the new season:
"It's hard to believe another cricket season is upon us but there's absolutely no doubt in my mind that everyone at the club is raring to go. We've done lots of work indoor and outdoor, and now we're just keen to play some proper cricket.
Last season was a disappointment on the pitch and there seems to be a real determination to show what we're truly capable of this time out. It's been great to have a number of new faces at training and we look forward to seeing them make a positive impact in a red and black shirt. The club and its reputation continue to grow, and 2024 will be a very successful year for MCC if the early signs are anything to go by."
Despite the challenges that lie ahead, the optimism within the club is palpable. There is a collective belief that this season will mark a turning point for Maghera Cricket Club. With unwavering commitment and a steely resolve, the team is ready to write a new chapter in their cricketing journey, fueled by the passion and dedication that defines Maghera Cricket Club.
